ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

The Cabrillo College Foundation is a nonprofit organization that partners with the community to raise charitable funds to support students, faculty, and programs at the college that enable affordable, accessible, and exceptional higher education. Our small team works collaboratively to raise $3 - $5 million annually and stewards a $39 million endowment. 

We are seeking an experienced and service-oriented Accounting and Human Resources Manager with expertise in nonprofit accounting to join our team. 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Accounting and HR Manager helps the organization achieve its objectives by providing outstanding service, financial, and administrative support. Manages all accounting and human resources operations for the Cabrillo College Foundation including human resources management, budgeting, auditing, payroll, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and other financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and internal policies and procedures.  This position provides day to day oversight, tracking, accuracy in reporting and interpreting reports to management and Board. The Accounting and HR Manager plays a key role in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and programs that will contribute to its overall success. 

The Accounting and Human Resources Manager reports to the Executive Director and supervises the Accounting and HR Specialist and other staff as directed.

ACCOUNTING DUTIES (85% of time)

  • Lead and supervise all aspects of nonprofit fund accounting, including managing restricted and unrestricted funds, endowments, and disbursements.
  • Implement and maintain comprehensive fund accounting systems to accurately track contributions, allocations, and expenditures.
  • Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) specific to nonprofit organizations.
  • Produce precise and timely financial reports, statements, and forecasts for the Board of Directors, senior management, and external stakeholders, aligning with nonprofit reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting regulations, tax laws, and reporting standards. 
  • Coordinate annual audits and manage interactions with auditors to address audit queries effectively.
  • Develop and enforce robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks and maintain the integrity of financial data.
  • Mentor and guide the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Develops and manages operating budget based on overall organization needs and revenue forecasting
  • Manages the Finance Committee and Audit Committee including developing agendas and minutes, scheduling meetings and volunteer committee management.
  • Support strategic planning and implementation efforts, ensuring that all Foundation initiatives make economic sense and are consistent with the organization`s financial strategy and effective operations
  • Monitor and work closely with Cabrillo College Foundation investment consultant to ensure smooth day-to-day investment operations and compliance with Cabrillo College Foundation investment policy statement, budgeting, cash management and reporting.
  • Monitor requirements and negotiate and oversee capital acquisition, third-party vendors and consultants, insurance providers, and legal counsel

HUMAN RESOURCES DUTIES (15% of time) 

  • Oversee human resource functions including recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, training and professional development, performance evaluations, policy making, and maintaining staff handbook. 
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and human resource standards. 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Significant experience in non-profit accounting and reporting 
  • Demonstrated success as a manager
  • Strong technology skills, high proficiency and degree of accuracy with Microsoft Office Suite, database-related software applications
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Prioritizing work, coordinating several activities, and following up as required
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for foundation events
  • Maintaining, interpreting varying and reconciling accounting records, report, and data
  • High level of personal and professional integrity
  • Excellent judgement and discretion 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to four hours at a time
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for foundation events

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holds a B.A. or B.S. degree or the equivalent of three college-level accounting courses
  • 5+ years of recent accounting and finance management work experience at a senior level, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Relevant experience in Human Resource management 
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in management of financial reporting and ensuring streamlined, effective administration and operations
