Under the supervision of the Comprehensive Services Manager, the School Readiness Specialist (SRS) is part of the Comprehensive Services team and supports the coordination of services to children and families, in order to prepare them with the skills needed for later success in school. The SRS supports the program implementation towards achieving those goals, and data collection to support the program in monitoring the effectiveness of those efforts. Working closely with the Education Manager, the SRS uses research-based assessment tools to collect data on the quality of teaching practices, classroom environments, adult-child interactions, and curriculum implementation, as well as holds an integral role in training staff to job specific competencies to promote school readiness, including direct support in the classroom.
The position is regular full-time, Non-Exempt. Salary range is $24-$28 an hour (dependent on qualifications/experience) plus pay differential for bilingual skills awarded upon qualification.
Act as a model teacher and model strategies to enhance staff’s abilities to meet individualized needs of children.
Work directly with parents or through parent workshops to support increasing their knowledge, understanding, skills and experience in child growth and development.
Oversight of continuity of services when children are unable to participate in our typical program services (i.e. distance services due to chronic absenteeism, health conditions, natural disasters, etc.).
Designs and implements strategies and activities to improve Kindergarten readiness, including parent education materials related to Kindergarten readiness and registration.
Assists in the development and implementation of Early Head Start, Head Start, and Kindergarten Transition plans.
Collaborates with local School Districts and other programs providing services to our families, in order to support coordination of services and build partnerships.
Assists in data collection to support the program in developing the School Readiness Goals, and in monitoring progress towards meeting the objectives.
Conducts observations related to effective teaching strategies, curriculum to fidelity, quality environments and teacher-child interactions (CLASS, QC-IT, ITERS/ECERS, Fidelity Tools, etc.).
Supports the program in the developmentally appropriate implementation of Supplemental Curriculum Activities and collects data regarding effectiveness.
Implements the bi-annual Needs Assessment and collects the data to inform the annual training plan and the Intensive Coaching Selection process.
This position is part of the center coverage plan and supports with coverage as appropriate.
AS degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) in combination with position related experience (required). A BA degree in ECE or closely related field is preferred.
Three plus years’ experience working with young children (0-5) and their families, in a licensed program (Head Start/Early Head Start experience is a plus).
Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or in a leadership role.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Bilingual English/Spanish (strongly preferred).
Computer competence; knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Experience with electronic record keeping systems and reporting
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and within a team successfully.
Ability to prioritize tasks, be detailed oriented, exercise good judgement and multi-task.
Flexibility; must be able to work evenings/weekends as needed.
Must have a valid Driver’s License, your own vehicle, valid vehicle insurance and good driving record,
and willingness to travel to offsite locations
Must be able to pass and maintain background check
Proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States.
Health Screen, MMR (Measles), Tdap (Pertussis), Negative TB results and COVID-19 (vaccine) before hire.
Experience in mentoring/coaching, and training early childhood staff
Experience in data analysis, presenting findings and creating action plans (highly desirable).
Experience with CLASS, QC-IT, ITERS/ECERS, and Fidelity Tools (highly desirable).

Position works in the Child & Family Development Programs (CFDP) service area. This service area provides early childhood education, social services, and parent education to 1,000 families with young children each year via Head Start/Early Head Start and State Preschool.
