Telos is a 10 bed, crisis residential treatment program for individuals who are in crisis and may be stepping down from an inpatient hospitalization. Telos staff provide structured activities, individual counseling, crisis intervention, outings, groups including creative expression, and nursing services. Psychiatric services are also provided to residents. Our staff philosophy is one of collaboration and team-decision-making. We are looking for individuals who have direct experience working with the seriously mentally ill population. Additionally, we are looking for skilled counselors who respond to clients and situations with an empathic, reflective approach. In addition to these skills and attitudes, qualified candidates will also be willing to participate in the various roll-up-your-sleeves type of residential and domestic tasks.

Job Summary:

We currently have a full-time Mental Health Clinician position opening at Telos, located in Santa Cruz. Evening and weekend on-call hours required. Additional 50c/hour for Spanish bilingual competency. Reporting to the Program Manager, under general supervision, the Clinician will be expected to demonstrate leadership qualities, and role model positive work habits. The Clinician will perform clinical services to provide support and assistance to clients in planning and attaining their goals. Special focus will be on the client’s needs related to the housing, physical health, issues of chemical dependency and mental health, stabilization of income, and reentry back into the community. The Mental Health Clinician will be responsible for developing and implementing therapeutic groups with residents of Telos, as well as supporting other counseling staff and group facilitators. The Clinician will also approve Avatar paperwork and share responsibilities in completing diagnoses, psychosocial assessments and mental status assessments. Services will be delivered with dignity and respect for each individual resident.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop goals, curriculum, and implement therapeutic groups for residents at Telos.
  • Supervise counseling staff group facilitators.
  • Supervise Avatar paperwork.
  • Establish a close working relationship with residents in the program.
  • Perform clinical duties, which will include individual counseling and facilitating house meetings and groups. Assist clients in crisis situations.
  • Supervise daily activities of clients, including performing support services that assist clients in everyday living skills. This may include supervision of clients' chores, monitoring mealtime activities, conducting social and recreational activities, etc.
  • Complete intake, assessment and evaluation paperwork with clients.
  • Monitor and track client’s use of medications; conduct client urine tests.
  • Transport clients to appointments as necessary.
  • Communicate with case managers and other service providers about client status.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and sober environment.
  • Maintain clinical charts and complete required paperwork in a timely manner as required by the County, State, and component guidelines.
  • Participate in the effort to keep the facility clean, well maintained and running smoothly. This may include household duties such as shopping for supplies, laundry and cleaning.

Qualifications:

  • MFT, MFT intern, ASW, or LCSW. Or Master's mental health degree leading to licensure.
  • Two years demonstrated supervised work experience in related program with mental health experience, counseling, and group facilitation experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Electronic data documentation preferred.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work in an intense environment dealing with varied personalities and cultures.
  • Ability to role model daily living skills in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and complete tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid California driver's license and clearance for agency vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Fingerprinting for licensing, criminal record clearance and necessary physical exams are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to constructively deal with a high degree of physical and emotional stress.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English highly desirable.
  • Supervised hours toward licensure can be provided.
