POSITION: Development Director (Felton, CA)

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time (20 hrs/wk) 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

ORGANIZATION: Mountain Parks Foundation (MPF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1973 as one of the first California State Park Cooperating Associations. Our vision is to gain committed public support and inspire the next generation of stewards of Henry Cowell and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks. MPF works in partnership with California State Parks to provide funding for multi-faceted interpretive and educational programs that serve more than 1.7 million park visitors annually.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: MPF is seeking a motivated, skilled team member to manage and lead fundraising efforts to substantially increase the organization’s financial support from individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, community partners, and other sources. This position will evolve with the needs of the organization; the Development Director may have the opportunity to help design future fund development programs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: The ideal candidate will have the capacity to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven culture and will be a self-starter, highly organized, a whiz with computers, and extremely effective working alone or with other people.


  • Experience is a must. 3-5 years with donor cultivation, fund development, and donor database management in a nonprofit environment required.
  • Superior computer skills and ease with automated tools and platforms.
  • Extremely efficient, able to work with a sense of urgency and focus.
  • Organized by nature, with an eye for detail.
  • Effective, approachable communicator.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use good judgment, discretion, and sensitivity in interactions with others.
  • Self-motivated, positive and personable.
  • Experience with eTapestry donor data base a plus.
  • Marketing and graphic design skills a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Development Director will manage, develop, and implement a dynamic mix of fundraising strategies including but not limited to these:

  • Manage and expand new Annual Membership Program.
  • Identify prospective donors and new fundraising opportunities.
  • Cultivate existing donors and steward relationships.
  • Cultivate major gifts.
  • Facilitate corporate/business giving.
  • Manage direct mail, email, and social marketing fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with maximizing Nature Store donor development opportunities.
  • Assist with grant applications.
  • Assist with capital campaigns.


  • Work in harmony with MPF board, CA State Park partners, and volunteers.
  • Help to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with the philanthropic community.
  • Assist with development and delivery of MPF Newsletter.
  • Assist with annual Lobster Feed fundraiser.
  • Other duties as assigned.
