Salary Scale: $60,000-$75,000

The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the buildings according to the school`s mission, goals, and operational budget.  As such the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for the cleanliness, safety, maintenance, operations, and enhancement of the buildings, equipment, HVAC, systems and related to the school`s structural outlay and campus assets.

The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator is supported by and works in partnership with the Facilities Leadership Team. 

Due to the nature of this position, the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator reports on a regular schedule but shall provide flexibility and “on-call” support in matters relating to the safety, security, special events, and well-being of the school`s campus.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides tradesperson support and backup support for general repairs, maintenance, and janitorial associated with the school, special events, and student projects as needed.
  • Performs, coordinates and oversees scheduling of routine equipment maintenance and safety maintenance in collaboration with the Facilities Leadership Team.
  • Daily clean-up of on-demand waste issues on campus.  This includes bathroom janitorial work, spot rug and floor cleaning, animal excrement, leaf blowing, garbage around grounds collection, water spills, bloodborne pathogens, and anything regurgitated by someone on campus.
  • Ensures all mechanical, electrical, and fire safety equipment is maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal safety codes. This includes monthly inspection of the wheelchair lift.
  • Supports oversight of the work performed by all personnel who are contracted by the school for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of the facility and grounds.
  • Supports internal and external service providers to ensure that maintenance and grounds personnel and contractors deliver efficient and professional service with all repairs, including inspection of contracted work, developing punch lists as necessary, and following through on punch list items. 
  • Coordinates with the Facilities Leadership Team on all school events, including set-up and breakdowns, and any attendant problems, and is in attendance at all special events.
  • Twice daily bathroom restocking of supplies in all bathrooms. 
  • Assist with the coordination of and physically taking unscheduled trash, recycling, e-waste or yard waste to the dump.
  • Abatement of animals, dead or alive, which are encroaching on usable campus space.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A strong knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, water, electrical, computer-controlled HVAC, AV equipment, masonry, housekeeping, along with a fundamental knowledge of architecture, engineering, and construction management. Capable of reading and interpreting building, engineering, and electrical drawings desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and an aptitude for administration, management, construction, mechanical equipment, computer usage, purchasing, supervision, security, and general services.
  • Experience with green and sustainable buildings and landscaping is desirable. Experience with irrigation controls, pumps, rainwater catchment, and cistern operations desirable.
  • Proven management skills in the area of personnel, time, cost, quality, facility, troubleshooting and property management.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience equal in scope to the requirements and duties required for this position.
  • 4-year college degree or trades degree in facility management or equivalent life experiences
  • Computer literate and able to prepare computer-generated reports, use electronic email, basic word processing, Google platform and willing and able to learn programs as may be needed in support of the above-referenced functions.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) and confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, trustees, parents, and students
  • Excellent time management skills in short- and long-term planning
  • Possession of own vehicle, current California driver`s license, clean driving record through DMV and current vehicle insurance
  • No state or federal criminal activity and/or history 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Frequently lift equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more
  • Crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn, and reach in completing a variety of job duties
  • Work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time
  • Work in wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school
  • Able to operate vehicles and machines

Work Schedule

This position shall work 40 hours per week as follows: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM on Monday-Friday. The schedule shall fluctuate at times to ensure the employee is working and available during school-wide events, and fundraising events that require support from the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator (i.e. In-Service Week, Advancement events, Grandparent`s Day, etc.). All requests for changes in the schedule or time-off are at the discretion of the Campus Manager and/or designee.
