ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

The Cabrillo College Foundation is a nonprofit organization that partners with the community to raise charitable funds to support students, faculty, and programs at the college that enable affordable, accessible, and exceptional higher education. Our small team works collaboratively to raise $4 - $5 million annually and stewards a $40 million endowment. 

We are looking for an experienced and outgoing Development Officer with fundraising expertise to join our team. We are seeking a professional who is self-motivated, quick-thinking, flexible and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities in an efficient manner. Our ideal candidate will be confident, reliable, and enjoy working with a team in a fast-paced environment where each day can bring a new set of priorities and demands. We are looking for a full-time team member, but are open to other options for the right person.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Development Officer`s primary responsibility is to direct annual fundraising programs and initiatives for college departments, programs, and alumni. The Development Officer is a senior strategist in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors (individuals, foundations, and corporations). This position triages and manages college-level fundraising efforts and assists the development team with other tasks of the development effort as needed. The Development Officer reports to the Executive Director.

DEVELOPMENT DUTIES

  • Develop and implement donor engagement activities and communications, both working independently and collaborating with college departments to raise funds for targeted initiatives.
  • Execute on plans and build deep and lasting relationships with donors and college staff
  • Create systems to track tasks, volunteers, donors, and processes to maximize efficiency and efficacy 
  • Coordinate and implement the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects
  • Donor and grant stewardship, reporting, and recognition
  • Develop, write, and manage proposals
  • Prompt and accurate communication with donors 
  • Assist with the Faculty and Staff Grants program and the development effort as needed

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Alumni, Athletics, Cabrillo Retirees, Cabrillo Stage, Payroll Deduction, Stroke Center, Student Club fundraising, Student Veterans Endowment, and other initiatives as they arise.  

  • Identify, organize, and train volunteers to participate in fundraising
  • Galvanize and build energy amongst volunteers
  • Develop annual strategies to increase engagement and financial support 
  • Set and achieve fundraising goals
  • Oversee and provide support for related events
  • Arrange for and attend meetings and prepare agendas and minutes
  • Work with campus community
  • Oversight and analysis for each program
  • Prepare and manage program budgets

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrable success in fundraising
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Comfortable with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to interface positively with a variety of people and demonstrating enthusiasm for Cabrillo College
  • Ability to protect and maintain confidential information 
  • Supervisory principles and practices
  • Basic accounting principles and practices
  • Prioritizing work, coordinating several activities, and following up as required
  • High proficiency and degree of accuracy with Microsoft Office Suite, database-related software applications, and other office equipment 
  • Experience with event and program coordination
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing responsibilities as programs evolve
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to four hours at a time
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for foundation events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a B.A. or B.S. degree 
  • Two years of experience in fundraising 
  • Experience supervising
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others
  • Superior interpersonal and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Leadership in organizing and training volunteers to become a successful fundraising group
  • Academic fundraising in a college environment

  • Position requires working in the office, however, employee will have the ability work remotely from time to time
