JOB TITLE: Facilities and Safety Assistant 

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Operations 

STATUS: Part-time (4 days a week, including weekends and evenings), non-exempt 

SALARY: $20.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities and Safety Assistant will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of Museum facilities, ensuring safety, security, and functionality. The position involves a variety of tasks, including handiwork, maintenance, janitorial work, overseeing safety protocols, and providing support for Museum events. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, as evening and weekend shifts are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs and oversight of the Museum properties.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and security of the Museum, including inspections of safety equipment, alarms, and security systems.
  • Assist in the setup, breakdown, and facilities management during events, ensuring cleanliness and functionality of event spaces.
  • Respond to and resolve facility-related emergencies efficiently.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the premises to identify areas needing attention or repair.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for larger maintenance and repair projects when needed.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of supplies and tools for facilities management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in maintenance and handiwork. 
  • Experience in safety and security protocols, ideally in a public setting.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to work weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed.
  • Valid driver`s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues independently.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with keen attention to detail.

SCHEDULE

  • This is a part-time position requiring 4 days per week, including weekends and evenings. Flexibility in availability is essential, as the schedule may vary depending on museum events and maintenance needs.

ABOUT THE MONTEREY MUSEUM OF ART (MMA) 

MMA was founded in 1959 and is a privately funded nonprofit with an operating budget of 3 million dollars. The Museum has endowed sources of support and raises approximately 1 million dollars annually. MMA currently has 20 full and part-time staff and more than 50 volunteers who lead the board or serve as docents. The Museum seeks candidates of diverse experiences and backgrounds with a passionate commitment to the arts and cultural sector, museums, and public education.
