Harbor Dredge Worker I, II, III

Description:

THE POSITION

Performs semi-skilled to skilled labor and maintenance tasks for Santa Cruz Port District dredge operations and harbor facilities and infrastructure including buildings, grounds, landscaping, docks, and lift stations. Operates a variety of specialized equipment and vessels and performs manual labor tasks. Duties may vary according to job assignment and experience and may include operation and maintenance of dredges, vessels, equipment and vehicles; maintenance and repair of harbor facilities, buildings, grounds and related tasks; monitoring, maintenance and repair of equipment, marine engines, pumps, hydraulics and electrical systems; operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment; maintenance of daily logs and records of work performed; compliance with environmental and safety regulations, Port District rules and regulations and applicable US Coast Guard regulations.

Successful candidates must be able to perform work in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; work effectively and courteously with the public, outside agencies, and coworkers; work independently and as part of a team; lift and use heavy tools and equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent and one to seven years of experience in facilities and/or marina maintenance and construction, dredging operations, workboat operations and maintenance, marine engine maintenance, deckhand or related work.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid California Driver`s License and be insurable for the operation of Port District vehicles. Possession of any of the following certifications is desirable: SCUBA diving, welding, equipment operator, Red Cross lifesaving certification.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $4,335 to $7,786 per month, depending on qualifications.

The Port District offers full benefits which include:

  • Retirement: The District participates in the California Public Employees` Retirement System (CalPERS). Employees` tiered placement is dependent on status as a “classic” member or “new” member.

  • Paid Leaves: 10 days of vacation accrual; 12 days of sick accrual; and 13 holidays per calendar year.
