JOB TITLE: Visitor Experience Associate  

REPORTS TO: Director of Education and Public Programs  

STATUS: Part-time, Non-exempt

SALARY: $20.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Visitor Experience Associate is responsible for overseeing the visitor experience at the front desk and in the galleries. This position sets the quality standard for communication and practices with our audiences and reports on attendance statistics and sales. This position requires excellent customer service skills, as they will correspond frequently with the community at the front desk and by phone. They will liaise with the Museum Educators and Docents to pass on relevant information for the Museum. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Visitor Experience  

  • Works independently and collaboratively to ensure a positive visitor experience, provides excellent customer service, and logistics for public participation in exhibitions, programs, and events.  
  • Supports equity and access initiatives across the organization, which contribute to a museum environment, and people that reflect and respond to the diverse needs of our community (internal and external). 
  • Ensures a high quality of service and a high level of visitor satisfaction through oversight of all aspects of the full cycle of the visitor experience at the Museum, including customer service, visitor safety, and Museum information. 
  • Collaborates with the Museum`s Education and Public Programs team to ensure that information about Museum exhibitions and programs are effectively shared with the public. 
  • Ensure that Volunteers/Docents are positioned well and supported in their interactions with visitors to provide engaging and educational experiences. 
  • Returns calls and emails from the public promptly and professionally. 

Admission and Sales  

  • Prepares weekly reports on admission and sales. 
  • Oversees walk-in and on-line ticketing of admission and special event programs.  

Security Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for monitoring cameras to ensure the safety and security of the Museum.  
  • Ensures galleries are adequately monitored by Museum Educators. 
  • Reports incidents related to the art or visitors to the appropriate personnel. 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum five years of customer service experience or relevant field
  • Experience in hospitality or cultural organizations preferred 
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events as necessary 
  • Experience with Blackbaud and Altru database systems strongly desired 
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred 

ABOUT THE MONTEREY MUSEUM OF ART (MMA) 

MMA was founded in 1959 and is a privately funded nonprofit with an operating budget of 3 million dollars. The Museum has endowed sources of support and raises approximately 1 million dollars annually. MMA currently has 25 full and part-time staff and more than 50 volunteers who lead the board or serve as docents. The Museum seeks candidates of diverse experiences and backgrounds with a passionate commitment to the arts and cultural sector, museums, and public education.
