Chief of Party/Field Surveyor

Description:

Rasmusen Land Surveying seeks an individual to take the lead in performing field surveys. The ideal candidate will be able to receive direction from the Licensed Land Surveyor or Field Manager and complete the work solo or with an assistant. Types of surveys will include boundary, topographic, construction staking, ALTA/NSPS surveys and Elevation Certificates. Willing to train and mentor the right individual depending on skill set and experience level. Position may be filled at the Chief of Party or Field Surveyor level. More than one position may be filled.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Lead, direct and perform field surveys.
  • Mentor and train less experienced field surveyors.
  • Problem solving in the field to anticipate, identify and address issues to keep projects on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with clients, property owners and superintendents.
  • Work with office staff to assist in completing topographic, ALTA/NSPS surveys, Records of Surveys and maps, staking cut sheets and other deliverables as necessary.
  • Reading and interpreting field survey notes, legal descriptions, parcel and tract maps, records of survey, and construction plans.
  • Represent Rasmussen Land Surveying in a professional and positive manner as a point of professionalism with an eye towards business development.

Desired Skills: 

  • Proficient in all types of construction staking including structures, flatwork, utilities, pipeline staking and slope staking.
  • Experience in performing PLSS survey retracements including ability to read and follow survey field notes and PLSS plats, identify monuments, witnesses and accessories.
  • Familiar with surveying principles and theory, field methods, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, architects, engineers and others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Proficient in the operation of robotic total station and GPS survey equipment.
  • The ability and desire to take responsible charge of field work to free up staff to work in other areas.
  • Take initiative to learn and expand the skill set including but not limited to CAD drafting, 3D laser scanning, obtaining LSIT certificate and land surveyor`s license.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 3-5 years of general field surveying experience with preferably 1-2 years serving as survey party chief for performing boundary, topographic and construction surveys.
  • Competent in surveying principles and theory, field surveying methods and procedures.
  • Familiarity with geometric and trigonometry principles.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience setting up, operating robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
  • California Driver`s license, proof of valid auto insurance and a clean driving record. Note: This will be verified.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Land Surveyor in Training Certificate (LSIT).
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Land Surveying or related field.
  • Completed courses in geometry and trigonometry.

Schedule

Full time, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday
