Independent School - Seeking Senior Accountant
A local independent school is seeking a dependable and highly
experienced Senior Accountant with strong analytical skills to
coordinate and oversee the organization’s finance department,
financial planning, debt financing, audit administration and budget
management.
Since 1983 the School has been educating children with a wide range
of language-related visual and auditory learning challenges in a way
that provides them with the learning skills and self-esteem
necessary to return successfully to mainstream education. The
School serves 120 children grades K though 10th grade with over 40
Staff and Faculty.
The Senior Accountant, working under the general guidance of the
Chief Business Officer, is directly responsible for overseeing and
assisting with the daily operations of the Finance Department (A/P,
A/R, payroll, bank reconciliations, financial statements, reports
and budget preparation). The Senior Accountant is responsible for
evaluating and assessing the organization’s accounting policies,
practices and procedures to conform to generally accepted accounting
principles. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for providing
financial reports (monthly cash flow, P/L, net assets, restricted
funds, grant expense tracking, and capital expenditures),
recommendations, and financial advice to ensure implementation of
short- and long-range department and organization goals. The Senior
Accountant is responsible for the daily supervision of financial
staff. Other main responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing
monthly, quarterly and annual operating results against annual
budget; coordinate long range planning of capital expenditures;
implementing advanced financial analysis to assist with business
models, sensitivity analysis, program growth; as well as serving on
various Board of Trustee subcommittees.
The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of
a team to achieve the school’s mission and goals. Must possess
strong experience or advanced knowledge of Fund Balance accounting.
The ideal candidate will be able to handle multiple work priorities,
be extremely organized, detailed and accurate. Thorough knowledge
of GAAP guidelines, principles and standards; good judgment and
strong business acumen to exercise tact and courtesy is essential.
Education and experience required: BA/BS in accounting and/or
finance or related field, with at least seven (7) to ten (10) years
of progressively responsible experience. Experience or working
knowledge of fund balance accounting required, preferably in a non-
profit, school or government environment. Proficient in accounting
software, preferably Blackbaud, and advance skills in Microsoft
Excel and Microsoft Office programs.
